Wheel Hub and Bearing Replacement – Instruction

A trouble spot of wheel hubs is bearing so this instruction also contains information how to replace the bearing without replacing the hub.

1. Pick up the nut cap with a screwdriver and remove it.

2. Unlocking the nut, loosen it a little.


3. Fix your car. For this, throw into the first gear, put supports under the front wheels, then jack the rear part of your car and use jack stands.

Important: When you unscrew the hub nut the car must stand firmly on the ground.

Thread and unthread the wheel bolts if only your car stands firmly on the ground. Tightening torque must be 65-95 Nwm (6.5-9.5kgf-m)


4. Remove brake shoes.

5. Unscrew the central hub nut and remove the bearing disk.

6. Compress the hub from the axle using an extractor.

7. Vice the hub, remove the check ring from the rear of the hub.

8. Extract the bearing from the hub using the extractor.

The hub double-row bearing does not need lubricating or regulating during the car operating life. When you extract the bearing it breaks down. For this reason, you should compress the hub if you only want to replace the bearing.


If you have no bearing driver or extractor which can help you to extract or compress the bearing you can use the rings of the old bearing.


9. Compress the new bearing with the extractor and set the check ring. Clean the components before installation to remove all dirt.


10. Compress the hub onto the axle. As the inner bearing edge is set with pressure you should apply some force.


11. Install the brake shoes and the drum.


12. Install the wheel.

13. Place your car firmly on the ground and tighten the hub nut. Tightening torque must be 225-250 Nwm (22.5-25kgf-m).


14. The nut has a bead which must be dabbed into the threaded drive axis groove, then set the nut cap.
